Mallaig Magness was born and raised in Medford, Oregon. She was homeschooled and this allowed her to pursue art at a young age. She took art classes frequently but was never very serious because of the stereotype that being an artist was not recommended if you wanted to make money. When her younger sister Kintyre began taking classes from Charity Hubbard at Rogue Classical Atelier (RCA) in 2019 Mallaig was inspired to take classes again. She joined Kintyre in classes in 2020.

After discovering a love for oil painting, Mallaig decided to pursue art seriously and joined the college program with her sister. For the last few years, she has been learning the classical approach to painting at Rogue Classical Atelier, taking inspiration from old masters as well as more modern masters, like Richard Schmid and Scott Christensen. She enjoys painting landscapes where she can be more impressionistic and also portraits where she can capture who a person is with more detail. Besides oil painting, she enjoys charcoal, graphite, pastels and watercolor.
